Welcoming Joe Skupinsky

Latest Update March 28, 2024

Why did you join CommandBar?

I really wanted to join an early-stage, fast-growing start-up, and CommandBar fit that profile. When I met with James, one of the co-founders, I got an understanding of CommandBar and its value prop quickly.

I’m someone who loves geeking out about software design, so it clicked with me right away, and I love how it makes software easy to use for others.

I also genuinely enjoyed the team: everyone challenged me throughout the interview process, so I knew this would be a great place for me to grow and learn.

What did you do before?

I’ve worked in tech sales before but this role is much different than any of my previous roles. My last two roles were in retail tech, selling to more traditional industries such as restaurants and consumer-packaged goods. I’m excited to share CommandBar since I can relate to the people I’m talking to, as I also enjoy well-designed software.

What has been your favorite part of CommandBar so far?

I love that we’re all included in everything we’re doing. It’s not a separate team making all the decisions; everyone comes together — whether you’re in sales, marketing, or engineering — to execute and contribute to the company mission.

Do you have any pets?

I have a Rottweiler named Roxy. I’ve had her since she was 10 weeks old. I moved with her from New Jersey to SF and now Nashville!

What are your favorite apps?

Skyscanner is my favorite app for traveling! I use Mint for personal finance, and always try to optimize for points on my credit card. I also recently started to use Hera as a calendar app. Lastly, I can’t forget about Notion, Front, and Grammarly.

Where have you traveled to?

I’ve been all over Europe — Spain, France, England, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, and Portugal. I’ve also been to South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and the Maldives.

I haven’t been to Asia yet — for my next trip, I’d love to visit Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan if I get the opportunity.

My favorite part about traveling is trying out new food places!

What’s your favorite cuisine?

Mediterranean is my favorite — pretty much anything I can dip a pita in! Whipped feta is really great, and also falafel sandwiches and shawarma. I enjoy Italian food and seafood as well.
