What does installation mean?

Sorry to get philosophical on you, but before we talk about how to install, we should talk about why to install.

CommandBar is intended for your users (or visitors, whatever you call them). In order for your users to see the experiences you create with CommandBar, CommandBar needs a way to reach them. That’s what installation does.

Before installing CommandBar, you can still build experiences in the Dashboard and preview them in your product with the extension. But when you’re ready to publish them, you’ll need to do installation.

Two steps of installation

Installing CommandBar means two things:

  1. Getting CommandBar’s code delivered to your users
  2. Turning CommandBar on for the current user (”booting”), and identifying them (used for analytics and certain targeting conditions)

The second step makes it easy to control which users have access to CommandBar, at all.
